After the amendment to the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germanyand the billion-euro package, the savings mandate for the federal government feels like it is taking a back seat. Economists have some ideas - but are also critical of pure cuts. Professor Nadja Dwenger from Hohenheim was also interviewed by the Südwestpresse: “The economic situation is difficult, and at the same time we are undergoing structural change. In the current situation, it is important for the government to be optimistic and stimulate investment. Tax increases are not the signal that will encourage investment and economic activity,” warns economist Dwenger. More important would be structural reforms to make the state more efficient.
