Forced migrants once made the “Wirtschaftswunder” possible  [30.06.22]

Article in FAZ on June 5, 2022 reporting the research work of Prof. Dr. Nadja Dwenger and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Braun

The images of refugees from Ukraine fleeing the Russian army to the West are reminiscent of the forced migrants during the postwar period. Prof. Dr. Nadja Dwenger, professor of Public Economics at the University of Hohenheim, and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Braun, University of Bayreuth, have investigated the role of forced migrants in postwar Germany and their part in the German Wirtschaftswunder. They have determined that the integration of forced migrants was most successful where their proportion of the population was relatively small.
