What ist Public Economics? What is Fiwi?
Fiwi is the chair of public economics at the department of economics at the University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart). With eleven full chairs, the department is a large one under the departments of economics in Germany. The chair of public economics is headed by Prof. Dr. Nadja Dwenger. Public economics deals with the topics of public finance, public administration, taxation and the fiscal policy activity of the state. Our research results in the fields of economics and finance are to be used for future decisions, e.g. in fiscal policy or economic policy.
Finance - The State as an Economic Actor
The state influences many areas of our life and plays an important role in many economic decisions. The chair of public economics deals with this aspect of the state in its research. Nadja Dwenger focuses her research on the question, how government actions affect the behavior of individuals, groups, and firms. The focus of her research is on taxation and tax enforcement, public administration, and the direct and indirect consequences of fiscal policy on economy.
The team of the chair of public economics at the department of economics at the University of Hohenheim includes the chair holder Nadja Dwenger as well as the research assistants Giuseppe Cappellari, Lea Weiz, Philip Mielcarek and Jasmin Vietz. They also conduct research in the field of public economics and teach courses at the University of Hohenheim.

The University of Hohenheim offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in economics. In the field of economics, especially public economics, this includes basic and profile courses. In the courses offered by the chair of public economics, students benefit from a lively design with active participation. Nadja Dwenger refers to current topics in fiscal policy and economic policy.
